Being at the frontline of this crisis, the healthcare industry is being challenged in every way to keep up with the increasing demand among consumers. One of those challenges includes handling large volume of daily data, ensuring that each communication and transaction is documented efficiently.

Established in April 2010, the local healthcare enterprise Public Medicare Group Sdn Bhd (PMG), headquartered in Jalan Berjaya, Sarikei, Sarawak, faced the same challenges. Housing a wide range of services including medical and dental clinics, retail pharmacy, laboratory and X-ray services – the Group aims to provide affordable and professional healthcare services to the local community across Malaysia.

“As we are serving a large pool of customers, our work requires high volume printing with great speed and low running cost at the same time. We thought it was impossible to find a printer that fits all the criteria we had in mind” says Ms Ling Hang Wei, PMG’s operations executive. Targeting both Malaysians and residing internationals, Ms Ling also emphasised the importance of print communications in their line of work. Documents that are printed daily include invoices, official letters, and SOP guidelines – to name a few.

“The waiting time just buzzes us out since we are not sure if the printing job went through or not. When we get frustrated, we will then send new print jobs and suddenly multiple copies are printed” she adds.

“It’s worse during our hectic days and the printer decides to run out of ink or simply break down. These issues take up our time and cost to fix them.”

With large volume of printing job needed, it is essential for PMG to obtain a low cost, high printing speed and high page yield printer that they are able to rely on. This motivated PMG to choose Epson EcoTank printers –voted as the World’s No.1 for reliability by dealers[1] – to support their business needs.

“By choosing Epson EcoTank printer, we are able to finish the tasks within a given time. The high-speed attributes and decreased maintenance needed helped our company to save a lot of time and cost. It also increased our team’s productivity,” added Ms Ling.

Powered by Epson Heat-Free Technology, the printer also comes with considerable savings for PMG’s electricity bill. As no heat is required for the ink ejection process during printing, Epson inkjet printers consume up to 85% less power than a similar-speed laser printer.[2] For a typical office that requires frequent printing, this can amount to distinct savings in their annual energy bills.

The Epson EcoTank L5190 offers an ultra-high page yield of 4,500 pages in black and 7,500 pages in colour, whereas the Monochrome M3170 prints up to 6,000 pages. With the auto-duplex printing capabilities provided by Epson Monochrome M3170 printer, user can save 50% of the paper cost when compared to the previous brand they used.  The multi-functional printers’ integrated ink tank designs are also space-saving and ensure spill-free and error-free refilling.

Allowing for seamless information transfer and astounding performance, the Epson EcoTank L5190 comes with Wi-Fi Direct capabilities – enabling connection up to 8 devices without a router, including from mobile to printer option. The ease of remote printing also means that users do not have to queue physically to use the printer.

To date, PMG has purchased over 120 units of Epson EcoTank printers – the Epson EcoTank L5190 comes with 2 years or 30,000 pages warranty, whichever comes first; while the Epson Monochrome M3170 comes with 4 years or 50,000 pages warranty, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes coverage of the printhead, which is extremely crucial for printers designed for high-volume printing.

[1] In a Kantar TNS survey commissioned by Epson, 87% of 145 multi-brand dealers voted Epson ink tank printers as the most reliable.

[2] Statistics above are based on results from internal testing conducted by Epson, using Epson L6550 ISO Colour 12ipm vs Laser model ISO Color 22ppm test for power consumed to print 20 pages. Testing single page A4 document of ISO Office Final PDF (ISO/IEC 24734). Each test was conducted twice by Epson to ensure consistency of results. Both printers have been tested under same conditions.
